About the Scholarship

We know that behind every distracted driving statistic is a person — a neighbor, a friend, or a family member — and we’re committed to raising awareness about
this issue.

Our scholarship program was created to highlight the importance of safe driving while celebrating the achievements of our local high school seniors.

In short, we’re looking for students who exemplify leadership, community involvement, and creativity in addressing the challenges we face in our world today.

We look forward to hearing about how you’re making an impact in your school, community, and beyond!

Application Requirements

Graduating seniors from Beaufort County are encouraged to apply for the Carr Legal Group Scholarship by submitting a creative, thoughtful response to one of our essay prompts.

In addition to your essay, we’d love to learn more about your achievements, community involvement, and future goals.

Here’s what you’ll need to submit:

  1. Your high school transcript: Include your most recent transcript in either PDF or DOC format.
  2. Extracurricular Activities: Provide a bulleted list of your extracurricular activities, including any community involvement.
  3. Creative Entry: Choose one of the prompts below and submit an essay of 600 – 700 words.
  4. Teacher Nomination: Nominate a teacher who has inspired or supported you during your high school journey.
  5. A recent photo: A photo that we can include if you’re selected as a scholarship recipient.

Essay Prompts

Choose one of the following prompts for your creative entry:

Safe Driving and Smart Choices

Distracted driving is a major cause of accidents, particularly among teens. Reflect on your high school years and imagine you could go back and give your freshman self advice on staying safe behind the wheel.

What steps would you take to avoid distractions and make responsible driving choices? How have your experiences in high school prepared you for making smart decisions in the future?

Community Service and Local Impact

Community service is a powerful way to create positive change. Share a community service project or volunteer experience that has impacted you personally.

What did you learn from it, and how did it benefit your school or local community? What ideas do you have for future projects that could make a difference in your area?

Our Selection Process

The Carr Legal Group Scholarship Committee will carefully review each submission, paying close attention to the creativity, thoughtfulness, and personal connection in your essay. We also consider your academic achievements, extracurricular activities, and demonstrated financial need.

Above all, we want to recognize students who are passionate about their education and who are making a positive impact on their community. Winning essays will be shared with key leaders throughout South Carolina to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving.

Winners will be announced during their school’s year-end awards ceremony, and we look forward to celebrating your success with the entire Beaufort County community!
